    Current standings:

    Texas Tech 3 - 0 17 - 4 .810
    TCU 2 - 1 14 - 5 .737
    West Virginia 2 - 1 10 - 8 .556
    Baylor 1 - 2 16 - 4 .800
    Kansas 1 - 2 9 - 10 .474
    Oklahoma 0 - 0 21 - 3 .875
    Kansas State 0 - 0 14 - 6 .700
    Oklahoma State 0 - 0 14 - 6 .700
    Texas 0 - 3 13 - 9 .591

I would guess that Tech, TCU, and Oklahoma State (CWS teams a year ago) will probably shake out as the best teams in the conference. But Baylor, OU, and K-State are all playing really solid baseball so far this year, too. WVU and Texas are both capable of stringing together a lot of wins, too. Short story is that Big 12 baseball is really good top to bottom.

    Baseball America has us ranked:

    #3 TCU
    #8 Texas Tech
    #20 Baylor
    #21 Oklahoma State
    #24 Oklahoma

Man, our team is hard to figure out. They're really streaky. They smoked last years' National Champs in two games, beat Baylor to kick off conference play, and lose to the Bind Sisters of Mother Mercy in between. I think we should have made the Series last year, by this year, not so sure.

OU baseball just took 2 of 3 from #2 Texas Tech. What a difference it makes to have a real pitching coach. (Thanks, Horns, for Skip Johnson.

Mountaineers making some noise, up to #7 in RPI after series wins against the Bears and the Pokes, then Pitt, Morehead State, and an opening win against the Jayhawks. Projected to make the Series for the first time in like 30 or more years. Still tough slate of conference games to go though. Like in all things. I'm sure we'll make it interesting to the last out.

    Big 12 Baseball Standings:

    TCU 8-1, 24-5
    TTU 5-2, 27-6
    WVU 5-2, 18-10
    OU 4-3, 26-7
    UT 5-5, 21-12
    KU 3-4, 13-16
    BU 2-5, 19-11
    OSU 1-6, 17-12
    KSU 1-6, 16-13

I'll say again. The league is absolutely brutal this year. And unlike recent years, I think we'll be recognized for it nationally without having to put 3 teams in the CWS semi-finals. I think we've got a pretty good shot at 6 or 7 NCAA tourney bids this year with an outside chance to maybe even land 8. That said, the only really big surprises to me are how well OU has played so far this year (Pete Hughes was probably coaching for his job this season) and how "poorly" OSU has played. Though I still expect Oklahoma State to click at some point and start playing really well.

Most of the league has good coaching now. That wasn't the case for a few years. And Texas high schools produce a lot of elite pitching. We really should be an outstanding baseball conference, top to bottom.

I'm not sure we're playing poorly, but we aren't playing where we'd like to be. Our biggest problem is we've lost some close games to good teams. We just haven't seen our hitters and pitchers show up at the same time.

Yeah. That's why I put "poorly" in quotes. The record in conference play is what it is but I'm not at all concerned about it for OSU's sake at this point. Lots of B12 games left to play. And Holliday has recruited really well for you guys. At some point things will click and you'll start stringing a lot of wins together.

After last night I will admit I was pretty nervous, but if they can close this one out and win tomorrow that will be a start.

    2017 Big 12 Standings
    Team Overall W-L Conf. W-L
    Texas Tech 42-13 16-8
    TCU 39-14 16-8
    Oklahoma 34-20 12-11
    West Virginia 32-22 12-12
    Baylor 34-19 12-12
    Texas 34-20 11-12
    Kansas 29-26 11-13
    Oklahoma State 26-25 8-14
    Kansas State 29-26 8-16

I think we've safely got six teams into a regional with OSU needing to win the tourney to stay alive.

And wouldn't you know it, OSU is still alive in the Big 12 tourney. OSU won its first two games and leads WVU in the 8th today. If the Cowboys win, they'll play in a championship game series against the winner of the other bracket. If WVU wins, they'll need to beat the Cowboys again to advance.

On the other side, Texas will play TCU with an opportunity to advance to the B12 title. The Frogs will needs to beat Texas twice to advance.

Oklahoma State wins the Big 12 tournament over Texas, 6-5. Better late than never for OSU to start playing like the team we all thought they'd be when the year started.

Yeah strange year, where the team played well against the good teams, and just fell off the table against middle or low end teams. They beat Tech 3 out of 4 games, and swept by KU. They're going to be a tough seed for the committee, and probably a pain for whoever gets them in their regional.

With OSU's Big 12 tourney run, the Big 12 ended up getting 7 teams into the NCAA baseball tourney. Tech and TCU are Top 8 seeds nationally.

I haven't seen any details for the other regionals yet, as I've been working all day. Our placement was very nice. I'd say OU got screwed somewhat, but part of that may have been because we forced our way in. It will be interesting to see if we can get multiple teams to Omaha again this year.

OU has series wins over Long Beach State, TCU, and Tech. So maybe getting stuck in a regional with Louisville will bring out the best in our team. Tough group though, for sure, and Xavier's ace is actually pretty good.

The Houston regional is pretty tough as well with Houston (17 RPI), Baylor (20), A&M (46) and Iowa (82).

Though, if any of us really got screwed, it was TCU drawing Virginia as their 2 seed to face.

A big difference between the baseball and basketball tournament is the parity. There aren't many easy games, and even a weak team can have that one pitcher that gives them a shot.

You know us - after such a long hiatus, we're just happy to be there. Got a pretty young team and our ace is coming off injury, so my expectations are low but hopes high.

Not a good tourney so far for the conference. Texas and TCU are all we have left.

TCU wins and they're into the Supers. Texas is still playing Long Beach State.
